Licensed Resident in Counseling

Matt Naugle

We travel the road with you, hope for the hopeful and hopeless! We pair authentic listening with the power of hope.

Hello, I’m Matt (he/him) and I work with clients of all ages with a focus on adults and teenagers. My approach to counseling clients is relational, focusing on building an affirming, supportive, and non-pathologizing alliance with my client.

My prior experience is in working with individuals and families who struggle with finding ways to cope with challenges like OCD, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, parenting, and making sense of religious/spiritual questions. I am particularly passionate about working with the LGBTQIA community and helping them with their unique concerns in regards to their mental health.

I am a Licensed Resident in Counseling with a year of experience working with clients and I provide services over telehealth. I received my bachelor’s degree in Congregational and Youth Ministry in 2015 before attending graduate school at University of Virginia, where I received my Masters of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

I believe that working as a counselor is a great privilege and honor. In my sessions, the client directs which way the sessions go and I act as an outside listener and observer. I believe people are naturally driven to grow and improve and that sometimes they need help recognizing how to arrive at the goals they have for their lives. Often, their unmet needs, along with the burdens of societal expectations and systemic oppression, act as roadblocks on the path to the growth they wish to achieve. My goal as a counselor is to listen without judgment so that clients can sort through their thoughts and emotions to identify their needs and how to ensure that they are met. My approach focuses on DBT and building skills to help clients cope with their concerns in the way that suits them best, as well as narrative therapy, so that people can learn to look at and reauthor the story of their own lives.
