Licensed Resident in Counseling

Lauren Johnson

We travel the road with you, hope for the hopeful and hopeless! We pair authentic listening with the power of hope.

Hello! I’m Lauren Johnson, and my pronouns are he/him (they/she). I specialize in working with clients with trauma histories and folks from the LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent communities whose lived experience ranges from depression, anxiety, C-PTSD/PTSD, bipolar, BPD, OCD, substance use, to chronic illness. As a queer, neurodivergent therapist, I am passionate about providing all clients with trauma-informed care that is affirming, non-pathologizing, anti-oppressive, and strengths-based. I work with clients of all ages, with a special focus on young adults, adolescents, and children.

I am a Licensed Resident in Counseling in Virginia with over 7 years of experience, and I provide therapy services via telehealth. I earned my Master of Arts degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and my Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology: Counseling and Human Development at Liberty University. In my academic work, I presented research on counselor responses to culturally embedded sexism at a graduate research symposium, and I played a key role in developing an e-Book and curriculum for an undergraduate course on developmental psychology.

As a therapist, I believe my role is to come alongside you to support, empower, and challenge you on your journey. Understanding the value of lived experience, I honor the strength, wisdom, and intuition inside of you, as you are the expert on your own life. I provide clients with a safe container to feel seen, heard, and valued as we explore and process your emotions, core beliefs, and experiences. Because there is no “one-size-fits-all” in therapy, I tailor my approach to suit your unique goals and needs. In our work together, I draw from diverse perspectives and modalities to support you in cultivating mindfulness, acceptance and commitment, somatic awareness, creative expression, cognitive-behavioral change, relational well-being, and more.

For anyone interested in an endeavor to engage with these services, you are one appointment away from discovering hope and empowerment that is uniquely catered for your life’s journey!
